Softball Drops Game One; Seventh Inning Comeback Lifts Gulls Over Bates
Team Stats
Mass.-Dartmouth
KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Endicott softball team split a doubleheader against UMass Dartmouth (2-5, L) and Bates (3-2, W) on Thursday afternoon at Fortune Road Athletic Complex.
GAME ONE: UMass Dartmouth 5, Endicott 2
WP (3-2): Edy Crawford (Exeter, N.H.) — 7.0 IP, 11 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K
LP (2-1): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H) — 6.2 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 7 BB, 4 K
Leading 1–0 in the seventh inning, the Corsairs tacked on four more runs with the help of a walk and a bases-clearing double to earn the win.
Endicott pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) and an RBI single from Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) before the comeback bid fell short.
Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) and Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.) led the offense, each going 3-for-4 at the plate, while Maddie Beeley (Salem, N.H.) also added two hits.
GAME TWO: Endicott 3, Bates 2
WP (2-2): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 7.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K
LP (0-2): Brigid Gaffny (North Andover, Mass.) — 6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Trailing 2-1 with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Jeanise Serrano (Shelton, Conn) put the ball in play, and the Gulls benefited as Bates mishandled a chopper up the middle, allowing two runs to score.
Catherine Seay (Marlborough, Mass.) and Kelley ignited the rally with back-to-back singles, followed by a McLaren walk to load the bases. This set the stage for Serrano to drive in the runs that put the Gulls in front.
Then, with the tying run on third base and just one out, Grady got the next two batters to fly out and ground out to pick up her second win and first complete game of the season.
Mitchell, McClaflin, Seay, Kelley, and Vania Moniz (Salem, N.H.) all registered hits in the victory.
