McLaren, Sheehan Earn CNE Weekly Honors
BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott softball junior outfielder Kylyn McLaren (Rochester, N.H.) and senior pitcher Emma Sheehan (Plainville, Mass.) have been named the Conference of New England (CNE) Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
KYLYN MCLAREN | PLAYER OF THE WEEK
McLaren powered the Gulls offensively to a 4-0 week (3-0 CNE), which included a marquee win over No. 12 nationally ranked Tufts.
The junior infielder/outfielder compiled a staggering .692/.733/1.231 slash line alongside nine hits – including one double and two home runs -- six runs scored, nine RBI, two walks, and three stolen bases on three attempts.
Against Tufts on Wednesday, McLaren went 3-for-4 with one run scored and six RBI.
She had a run-producing single in the 1st (2-0 lead), a two-run double in the second (7-0), and a three-run homer in the fourth (10-2), which put the exclamation point on the nationally ranked victory.
Her career-high six RBI also ranks tied for third all-time in the single-game program record books.
McLaren finished the week with three multi-hit games and just two strikeouts in 13 at-bats.
She also set single-game career-highs for hits twice (3) and total bases (7).
Defensively, McLaren played all four games in center field, converting all three chances she had, which included a highlight reel catch against UNE on Thursday.
Tied 1-1 in the fifth inning, McLaren provided a much-needed spark for the Gulls when she made a spectacular leaping catch at full speed, crashing into the fence in the left center gap to shift the momentum in the contest.
From there, the Blue and Green broke through with a five-run inning, capitalizing on a pair of UNE errors and stringing together four hits to take a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth and never looked back in the 9-1 (6 inn.) victory.
This is McLaren's first career CNE Player of the Week award.
EMMA SHEEHAN | PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Sheehan was the difference in the circle for the Gulls this week, as the senior right-hander posted a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA in a pair of appearances against No. 12 nationally ranked Tufts (W, 11-4) and Curry (W, 5-0).
On Wednesday versus the Jumbos, Sheehan came out of the pen in the first inning and scattered three hits over 3.1 scoreless innings, issuing zero free passes while striking out one batter before handing the ball over to Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) to close out the final three frames of the nationally ranked victory.
Sheehan followed up that stellar performance with six innings of shutout ball in her fourth career start (second this season) against Curry on Saturday.
The senior spun a two-hit, zero walks, two-strikeout gem, carving through the Colonels' lineup efficiently, needing just 58 pitches to get the job done in the outing.
Overall on the week, Sheehan tossed 9.1 innings, allowing five hits and no free passes alongside three punchouts in two appearances (one start) to the tune of a 0.00 ERA and 0.54 WHIP.
This marks Sheehan's first career CNE Pitcher of the Week honors.
