Softball Splits Doubleheader Versus Western New England; Grady Sets Single-Season Saves Record

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott softball team split its doubleheader against Western New England, 4-3 & 2-5, on Saturday evening at the Softball Complex.

GAME ONE: Endicott 4, Western New England 3

WP (6-1): Emma Sheehan (Plainville, Mass.) — 2.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
LP (8-8): Riley Kane (Prospect, Conn.) — 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
SV (7): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

The Gulls' three-run crooked number in the third inning spelled the difference in game one.

Following a solo run in the second, Endicott tacked on three more in the third for a 4-0 cushion via a two-run double by Kylyn McLaren (Rochester, N.H.) and an infield single from Maddie Beeley (Salem, N.H.). 

Western New England countered via solo runs in the fifth (RBI single), sixth (solo homer), and seventh (RBI single) innings to bring the game within one, 4-3.

However, in the seventh, the game-tying run was cut down overrunning first base (7-5-3) to end the contest as Shea McDaniel (Seymour, Conn.) tried to extend her RBI single an extra base to get into scoring position. 

GAME TWO: Western New England 5, Endicott 2

LP (6-3): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 2.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K

Western New England scored at least one run in alternating innings except for the seventh to come away with the split.

The Golden Bears produced a solo homer in the first, a bases loaded walk in the third, and three runs in the fifth via a two-run single and an RBI ground out. 

Endicott responded with two runs in the seventh, highlighted by a Catherine Seay (Marlborough, Mass.) RBI single up the middle, but it wasn't enough to overcome the five-run late-inning deficit. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

• The Gulls are 39-16 in the all-time series.
• Grady now stands alone as the program's record-holder for saves in a season (7).
• She currently shares the record with Endicott Hall of Famer Robyn Savitske Crosby '07, who notched six saves back in the 2005 campaign. 
• Grady's save in game one also bumped her career school record total to 13. 
• Endicott is 5-1 at home this season.
• The Golden Bears are 5-5 on the road this spring.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (19-10, 13-3 CNE) hosts Suffolk tomorrow at 12/2 PM. Sunday's doubleheader will serve as Senior Day for the program. Western New England (17-16, 11-5 CNE) welcomes Johnson & Wales to its campus tomorrow at 12/2 PM.
