Softball Splits Conference Road Doubleheader Against Nichols
DUDLEY, Mass. — The Endicott softball team split a doubleheader against Nichols College, 8-2 and 2-5, in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Wednesday evening at the Nichols Softball Field.
GAME ONE: Endicott 8, Nichols 2
WP (7-3): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
LP (9-10): Olivia Pedro (North Providence, R.I.) — 7.0 IP, 12 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
SV (9): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2K
The Gulls struck first, scoring two early runs in the opening frame.
Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.) led things off with a double to left field, and Maddie Beeley (Salem, N.H.) and Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) followed with back-to-back base hits to secure the quick 2–0 advantage.
The Blue and Green also plated runs in the third and fifth innings, highlighted by an RBI groundout from Tower and a double to right center off the bat of Kylyn McLaren (Rochester, N.H.).
In the seventh inning, McLaren, Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.), and Catherine Seay (Salisbury, Mass.) each delivered doubles, adding four insurance runs to the lead.
Grady entered in the sixth inning and shut the door from there, allowing just one baserunner the rest of the way to seal the 8-2 victory.
The Gulls were led offensively by Beeley, who finished with three hits and an RBI, while McClaflin, McLaren, and Seay each added two hits apiece.
GAME TWO: Nichols 5, Endicott 2
WP (7-11): Molly Medor (Highgate, Vt.) — 7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K
LP (7-2): Emma Sheehan (Plainville, Mass.) — 1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
After trailing 4–0 most of the game, the Gulls broke through in the top of the sixth inning, pushing across two runs.
An RBI base hit by Saccoccio sparked the offense, followed by a sacrifice fly from Seay that brought home Beeley (reached on an error) to cut the deficit to two runs.
Nichols tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth, and the Blue and Green ultimately fell to the Bison, 5-2.
Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.), Beeley, Saccoccio, Vania Moniz (Salem, N.H.), and Caroline Cummings (Trumbull, Conn.) each recorded one hit in the loss.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott leads the all-time series against Nichols, 49-7.
- Beeley tied her career-high with three hits in game one.
- McLaren recorded her 13th career double.
- Seay tallied her eighth multi-hit game of the year.
- Grady pushed her single-season program record saves total to nine.
