Jan. 27, 2005
The Endicott College Gulls hosted New England College tonight and smothered the Pilgrims with their constant pressure and outstanding three-point shooting leading to a 67-38 victory. Endicott played NEC even for the first half but broke out in the middle of the second leading the Gulls to their 5th consecutive victory in the past 2 weeks.
Endicott came out slow in the first half not scoring their first basket until 4 minutes into the game. The Gulls had trouble putting the ball in the hoop shooting just 25% from the field in the first half and went into break with just a 2 point lead, 24-22. Liz Yuneman led the Gulls offensive attack scoring 9 of her game high 19 points in the first half. Although Endicott struggled from inside the arc in the half, they had no trouble shooting the 3 throughout the game. The Gulls tallied 13 three point shots overall with 5 of those 13 coming in the first half.
Endicott found it's range in the second half and there was no looking back. Allowing NEC only 16 points in the entire second half, the Gulls went on an offensive mission scoring 43 for themselves, shooting 49% from the field and 47% from the three-point line. Carly Haynes (14 points, 5 steals) and Liz Yuneman led the way with scoring contributions from 9 other Endicott players. In the last 8 minutes of play, the Gulls finally broke down the Pilgrims, as EC exploded with a 27-4 run.
Endicott's outstanding second half play brought them yet another conference victory advancing the Gulls to 6-1 in the CCC and 8-7 overall. The Pilgrim's drop to 4-4 in the CCC, 8-8 overall. Endicott takes on Regis at home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
