Gulls Winning Streak Comes to an End with Loss to Roger Williams, 72-68
Feb. 19, 2005
The Endicott Gulls 14-game winning streak came skidding to a halt today as they fell to South Division 2nd ranked Roger Williams in Bristol, RI, 72-68. Freshman guard Caitlyn Leone led the way for the Hawks scoring 12 points, while center Katie Toye's 11 offensive rebounds was too much for the Gulls. Junior co-captain Jodi Brown led the Gulls with 16 points and seven boards.
Roger Williams took a one point lead into halftime, but the Gulls came storming back to start the second, jumping out to a 46-40 lead. The Hawks battled back taking the lead for good at the 8:45 mark and held off the Gulls thanks to clutch free throw shooting.
Toye finished the game with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds, and Mallory Decof nailed 3-of-4 from beyond the arc to end the game with nine points. Caitlin Elnitsky and Kelly Burger each added eight points in the victory.
Four players reached double-figures for the Gulls, led by Jodi Brown's 16 points and seven rebounds. Lisa Chartier added 13 points and seven boards, Liz Yuneman scored 12 points and dished out a team-high three assists, and Holly Beth Wojcik had 11 points and 6 rebounds.
The Gulls hold onto their regular season title at (17-8, 15-2) and as the top seed in the CCC will host the South's fourth seed, Eastern Nazarene, Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. The Hawks (15-10, 13-5) who have won five straight and only lost 1 game at home this season, will host Gordon College in the first round of the CCC tournament on February 22 at 6:00 p.m.
