Gulls Fall to Host Tufts in Championship Game
Nov. 20, 2004
Medford, MA - A talented Tufts squad defeated Endicott today in the championship game of the first annual Tufts Invitational, 74-55. All Tournament selections Lisa Chartier (13 points, 7 rebounds) and Liz Yuneman (9 points, 4 steals) led the Gulls.
The Jumbos, who lost only two home games last season, took an early lead on 57% shooting from the field. The margin was 17 at the half, 40-23, but the Gulls did not let up. EC came back fighting in the second half and was down just 11, 49-38, on a free throw by sophomore McKenzie Ferguson at 13:31. Tufts stymied the EC push, however, and held on for the win.
Carly Haynes led the Gull offense at the point recording 6 points, 4 steals, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Jodi Brown tallied 9 points, including 2 treys and sophomore Kate Harte provided valuable minutes off the bench collecting 5 points and 2 assists in just 11 minutes of play.
The Gulls had 14 steals to the Jumbos 9, and 3 less turnovers (17-20), but Tufts ruled the boards, out-rebounding the Gulls 42-31 and shot 50% for the game versus Endicott's 33%.
Endicott has over a week to regroup before their next contest. On Tuesday, November 30th, EC travels to Suffolk for a 7:00 pm match up.
