Suffolk Downs Gulls, 60-55
Nov. 30, 2004
The Suffolk Rams used a 24-3 run midway through the first half to take the lead and held on for a 60-55 win as Endicott tried to fight their way back tonight in Boston. Lisa Chartier led the Gulls with 19 points and 9 rebounds.
Endicott came out to a 12-6 lead early in the game before the Rams used their home court advantage and cold shooting by the Gulls (29% in the first half) to outscore EC by 21 points and take a 30-15 lead. The Gulls regained their composure for the final five minutes of the half to close the Suffolk lead at 11, 34-23. Point guards Aubrey Drugan and Carly Haynes led the Gulls scoring in the half recording 7 and 6 points respectively (each with 2 treys).
A much better EC team came out to play in the second half. Endicott controlled play throughout the half, playing more aggressively on offense and defense. A three pointer by Liz Yuneman at 6:32 pulled Endicott within three (48-45). Suffolk extended the lead to ten (56-46) at 2:05, but Endicott would not go away. Three three's by Chartier in the final minutes of play kept the Gulls within 5, but they would get no closer.
Chartier led the Gulls attack with 15 of her 19 points in the second half. Yuneman added 5 in the half, and Kate Harte had a solid game with 7 points. Drugan and Haynes each finished the game with 8 points.
The Rams, who finished last season, 19-7, extend their record to 3-1. The Gulls drop to 1-2 as they look forward to their home opener Thursday night versus Saint Joseph's of Maine; 7:00pm tip off.
