Kuilan goes for 30 in Salem State Win

BEVERLY, MA - Senior center Estrella Kuilan (Lowell, MA/Lowell) had a monster first half, scoring 24 of her game-high 30 points as Salem State defeated Endicott College, 75-65, in a non-conference game Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Kuilan was 11-of-14 from the field in the first half and finished the night 14-of-21 with six rebounds and six blocks. The Vikings, ranked 21st in the D3hoops.com national poll, shot 48 percent from the field to move to 9-1 overall while the Gulls evened their record at 5-5 (2-0 CCC) despite shooting 40 percent from three-point land and out-rebounding Salem 42-35.
CCC Player of the Week Liz Yuneman (Middle Village, NY/St. Francis Prep), a senior guard, netted a team-high 17 points in defeat. She also had two assists, two rebounds and a steal while senior guard Jodi Brown (Coventry, RI/Coventry) dropped in 13 points and had three steals.
Endicott trailed 35-30 at intermission but grabbed a 57-56 lead on freshman forward Nicole Young's (Rockland, MA/Cardinal Spellman) layup with six minutes to play in the second half, giving the Gulls their first lead of the game. Young finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Vikings then embarked on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes highlighted by sophomore guard Melissa Macchi (Peabody, MA/Peabody), who had three steals and huge three-pointer in that stretch.
Sophomore guard Michelle Gosselin (Underhill Center, VT/Rice) added 14 points and three steals in the win, while Macchi had 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals. Sophomore forward Lindsey Watkins (Wareham, MA/Wareham) chipped in 10 points, two blocks and eight rebounds.
Freshman forward Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, NH/Central Catholic) added 10 points for Endicott, which travels to Salve Regina Saturday (1:00 PM) while the Vikings host Fitchburg State (3:00 PM) the same day.
