Gulls Take Bite out of Noreasters

BIDDEFORD, ME - Endicott College overcame an eleven-point halftime deficit to defeat the University of New England, 60-56, Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
The Gulls limited the Noreasters to just 4-of-19 shooting in the final 20 minutes, outscoring the hosts 29-14 over that span. Endicott evened its record at 6-6 (3-1 CCC) while UNE fell to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Freshman forward Nicole Young (Rockland, MA/Cardinal Spellman) led the visitors with 12 points on 6-of-14 shooting. She also pulled down 11 rebounds, dished out five assists and had a block.
Senior captain Liz Yuneman (Middle Village, NY/St. Francis Prep) also dropped in 12 points while fellow senior captain Jodi Brown (Coventry, RI/Coventry) contributed 11 points - all in the second half - on 2-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc. Brown, who also dished out three assists and had four steals, hit key free throws in the final minutes of the game to secure the Gulls win.
The hosts increased the lead to 13 points before Brown canned consecutive three-pointers, commencing a 29-14 run in the second half.
CCC Rookie of the Week Alli Gamache led all scorers with 13 points but it wasn't enough for UNE.
The Gulls shot 40 percent from the field and got valuable minutes from forward Sarah Voigt (Kingston, NH/Sanborn Regional), who scored four points, grabbed six rebounds and had a block. Sophomore forward Sara Doherty (Somerville, MA/Arlington Catholic) dished out four assists in the win.
Endicott will travel to Wentworth Institute of Technology Thursday night (5:30).
