Leopards Pounce on Gulls in Overtime
Feb. 14, 2006
BEVERLY, MA - Wentworth Institute of Technology got six points in overtime from sophomore forward Emily Cring (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and four points in the extra session from junior forward Cheyenne Noble (Murrysville, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) to get past Endicott College, 67-63, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Noble dropped in a game-high 24 points (7-of-14 shooting) and led all players with 15 rebounds while recording two steals and three blocks in the victory that moved the Leopards to 14-9 overall and 9-7 in the CCC.
Senior guard Liz Yuneman (Middle Village, NY/St. Francis Prep) paced the Gulls (15-8, 12-3 CCC) with a team-high 17 points while freshman forward Nicole Young (Rockland, MA/Cardinal Spellman) dropped in 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots.
Junior forward Paris Sanders (Needham, MA/Minuteman Tech) hit the free throw that sent the game into overtime, but aside from Young's five points in the first two minutes, the hosts could not keep pace.
Wentworth owned a 46-35 advantage on the glass but also turned the ball over 18 times to Endicott's 13. But the visitors converted 17-of-21 opportunities from the charity stripe compared to the Gulls' 14-of-23 shooting from the free throw line.
Freshman guard Chelsea Proulx (Griswold, CT/Griswold) chipped in 13 points for the Leopards, who also got nine points apiece from Whitney Alvarez (Jaffrey, NH/Conant) and Cring.
Endicott sophomore guard Aubrey Drugan (Salem, NH/Bishop Guertin) had eight points and senior guard Jodi Brown (Coventry, RI/Coventry) scored six points, grabbed five rebounds and had four steals.
The Gulls will look to rebound Thursday night at Colby-Sawyer College (5:30) while Wentworth hosts Gordon (5:30).
