Gulls' Defense Too Much for Suffolk
Nov. 29, 2005
BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College relied on a relentless defense that limited Suffolk University to just 20 percent shooting from the floor to record a 59-40 victory Tuesday night in a non-conference contest at Macdonald Gymnasium.
The Gulls (2-1) picked up their first victory over the Rams (1-3) in five attempts thanks to a defense which held Suffolk to 16 first-half points and 0-for-14 in the game from beyond the arc.
After a shaky first half, freshman guard Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, NH/Bishop Guertin) sparked the Endicott offense in the second half, scoring all of game-high 12 points in the final 20 minutes of action. The freshman's play along with junior Paris Sanders (Needham, MA/Minuteman Technical), who dropped in 10 points, paced the Gulls.
The Gulls were poised down the stretch, extending their lead to 15 just inside 2:00 minutes on two Jodi Brown (Coventry, RI/Coventry) free throws, a Sanders' steal and a Carly Haynes (Laconia, NH/Laconia) put back.
Freshman Kerry Bowman (Guilford, CT/Guilford) led the Rams with 10 points, while leading scorer Jenn Fogg (Stonington, CT/Stonington) was limited to eight points in 32 minutes of action.
Senior Sarah Voigt (Kingston, NH/Sanborn Regional) had eight rebounds, seven points and an assist in 26 minutes while freshman Nicole Young (Rockland, MA/Cardinal Spellman) had six points, nine boards and a block in 17 minutes.
Endicott is back in action Thursday night at home when it takes on Emerson College (7) while Suffolk will look to rebound December 1 at Curry College.
