Bears Halt Gulls Win Streak at Four
Dec. 8, 2005
BEVERLY, MA - Justine Farroba (North Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) and Samantha Curry (Braintree, MA/Braintree) led the Bridgewater State women's basketball team past Endicott College, 74-64, Thursday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Farroba drained four threes and collected a game-high 19 points to go along with four assists and two steals while Curry scored 15 and grabbed eight rebounds to halt EC's four-game winning streak and lead the Bears to 6-1.
Freshman Nicole Young (Rockland, MA/Cardinal Spellman) led the Gulls with a team-high 17 points (on 8-for-12 shooting). The forward was a force in the paint, pulling down seven rebounds and adding a pair of blocks. Liz Yuneman (Middle Villiage, NY/St. Francis Prep) added 11 points, four rebounds and two assists while Sara Doherty (Somerville, MA/Arlington Catholic) chipped in 10 points and three assists for the Gulls, who fell to 4-2.
Endicott scratched and clawed all night long but every run was answered by the Bears, who jumped out to a 37-30 halftime advantage and led the entire second half. Natasha Sepe (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) had a game-high 11 boards and scored 14 points while Melissa Murphy (Rockland, MA/Rockland) contributed 12 points in the win.
The Gulls had the hot hand in the second half, shooting 42 percent from the field but it was not enough to combat Curry, Sepe and Farroba.
Paris Sanders (Needham, MA/Minuteman Technical) picked up 10 rebounds, two blocks and six points for the hosts while Sarah Voigt (Kingston, NH/Sanborn Regional) also had six points in the loss.
Endicott travels to 4-2 Emmanuel College Staurday for its final contest before winter break.
