Jan. 31, 2007
Boston, MA - The Endicott College women's basketball team squeaked out a 69-63 overtime win against CCC rivals Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday night in Boston.
The Leopards got out of the blocks well, building a 13 point lead thanks to an 18-5 run in the games opening ten minutes while the Gulls struggled to get their offense going and trailed by as many as 19 points in the first half.
Wentworth built their lead largely on second chance points, tallying 10 in the first half and 18 for the game to go along with an astounding 18 offensive rebounds. EC would not go quietly as the Gulls cut the Leopards lead down to eight at the end of the first period.
Endicott spend the entire second half clawing its way back into the game. EC finally tied things up at 60-60 with 1:11 remaining when Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, NH/Central Catholic) hit a three to cap a late game 5-0 run by the Gulls.
Wentworth had several opportunities to win the game in the closing seconds but could not find the twine, sending the game into overtime.
In the overtime period Endicott turned the tables taking its first lead of the game with just over three minutes and managed to hold Wentworth to just three points giving the Gulls the 69-63 overtime victory.
Despite trailing for virtually the entire game Endicott held a better shooting percentage from both the floor and three point range. EC's efforts were paced by Duchesne, who finished seven rebounds and a team high 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arch.
Freshmen forwards Ceciley Chisholm and Rachel Hewes (Nashua, NH/Nashua South) played well for the Gulls off the bench. Chisholm tallied nine points on three-of-four shooting and added eight rebounds and two assists, while Hewes had eight points on four-of-six shooting with a pair of rebounds and assists. Kaylin Burke (Leominster, MA/Leominster) was composed against the pressure, shooting three-of-four from three-point range and logging 24 minutes. Aubrey Drugan (Salem, NH/Bishop Guertin) also played well for EC, she finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
The silver lining for Wentworth was once again the play of Cheyenne Noble, who finished with a pair of game highs in her double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds.
EC improves to 11-6 overall and 8-1 in the CCC with the win, while Wentworth drops to 7-11 overall and 4-7 in the CCC. The Gulls will return home on Thursday night, February, 1 at 6:00 pm to take on New England College in another CCC match up.
