Feb. 3, 2007
BRISTOL, RI - The Endicott College women's basketball team used a 19-2 run to start the second half, as the Gulls notched a 61-54 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon in Bristol, Rhode Island.
The opening 20:00 minutes was a see-saw affair, as neither team could build a lead greater than five points. Both squads would escape into the intermission gridlocked at 22-apiece.
The Gulls, winners of five-straight entering Saturday's match-up, returned to the court on fire. In a span that took just under six minutes, the visitors took what was a tied game and quickly built a 17-point lead. Roger Williams responded by going on a 14-5 run of their own, however the Hawks never got closer than three down the final stretch.
Saturday afternoon belonged to Endicott's Nicole Young (Rockland, MA/Cardinal Spellman) and Sara Doherty (Somerville, MA/Arlington Catholic), as Young led the Gulls with 16 points and five rebounds. Doherty posted strong numbers for the Blue and Green, as the junior forward chipped in 15 points and dished out three assists in the win. Roger Williams was led by Casey Anderson's (Cohasset, MA) team-high 16 points.
Endicott, who improves to 13-6 overall and 10-1 in the CCC, looks to notch their seventh straight win on Tuesday night as they host Eastern Nazarene. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM in Beverly, MA
