Gulls Grounded by Lions, 53-42

BOSTON, MA - Emerson College went on a 15-4 run over the final 6:43 of the second half, as the Lions defeated Endicott 53-42 Wednesday night in Boston, MA.
Wednesday night's contest was a back and forth match-up as the two teams exchanged the lead on 12 different occasions. Neither team led by more than three points in the first half, as the Lions entered the locker room up two, 24-22 after 20 minutes of play. Emerson rode the strong play of Maude Okrah (Rutland, MA) in the opening frame, as the sophomore guard dropped in 11 points in the first half; including a hanging runner in the lane to beat the buzzer sending the Lions into the break up two.
Endicott's Rachel Hewes (Nashua, NH/Nashua South) tried to set the tone for the visitors, as she scored back-to-back buckets for Endicott to open the second half. Emerson quickly regrouped and was able to even the score when Becky Everett (Orange, MA) converted for two hard earned points down low, tying the game at 26.
A full 12 minutes ticked off the clock as both the Gulls and the Lions exchanged baskets. With 5:10 remaining in regulation, Emerson's Becky Everett struck again as she knocked down a ten foot jumper, putting the home team up five. Just one minute later, the Lions would build the lead to 10 when Emerson's Okrah grabbed a strong defensive rebound and was rewarded for running the court, converting on the other end for an easy lay-in.
Emerson dominated the boards game on Wednesday, as the Lions out-rebounded the Gulls, 42-28. Endicott was only able to convert on 14 total field goals, as they were held to 14-for-42 (33.3%) shooting from the field.
The Gulls were led by Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, NH/Central Catholic). The sophomore guard scored a team-high nine points for Endicott. Also having a solid game for the visitors was Rachel Hewes. The freshman forward came off the bench for the Gulls and dropped in six points and grabbed four rebounds in the loss.
Okrah led the Lions with a game-high 14 points while junior Ellie Feitlinger (Madison, WI) pulled down 12 rebounds.
With the win, the Lions improve to 5-3, while Endicott falls to 5-4. The Gulls enter the winter break having lost their last two games. The blue and green return to action on January 6, 2007, as they jump back into conference play to take on Anna Maria. The Gulls and Amcats are scheduled to tip-off at 1:00 PM in Paxton, MA.
