Duchesne scores her 1,000th, Gulls topple Lady Bengals

BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College senior guard Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, N.H.) scored her 1,000th point as the Gulls cruised past visiting University of Maine Fort Kent, 76-55, on the final day of the EC Tip-Off Invitational on Sunday afternoon in Beverly, Massachusetts. Endicott turned 34 Lady Bengals' turnovers into 35 points in the win.
Maine Fort Kent (0-4) started the game off with a 7-2 run, capped off by a pair of free-throws by freshman forward Maliesha Caesar (Cayon, St. Kitts). Endicott (2-0) would respond by rattling off a 21-8 burst to take a 23-15 lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half. From there, Endicott would post 17 of the half's final 23 points, as the Gulls coasted into the intermission with a commanding 40-20 advantage.
The two sides traded buckets throughout the second half, as Maine Fort Kent never got closer than 18 points. Nicole Duchesne, who finished the afternoon with 14 points, notched her career 1,000th and 1,001st points as she converted a tough lay-in with 9:29 remaining in the game. Endicott would stretch its lead to as many as 29 down the stretch before eventually taking the 76-55 win.
The Gulls' Ceciley Chisholm's (Lexington, Mass.) flirted with a triple-double as she ended the afternoon with 20 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals. Duchesne had 14 points, five rebounds and three assists on her monumental day. Freshman Kate Kovach (Moon Township, Pa.) was an efficient 5-of-6 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the behind the arc for a total of 14 points. Nicole Young (Rockland, Mass.) had 11 points in just 15 minutes for the unbeaten Gulls.
The Lady Bengals were paced by Shir Fuchs (Herzeliya, Israel) and Maliesha Caesar as the duo each had 14 points in the setback. Amber Garrison (Oroville, Calif.) had 13 points and four assists, while Ashley Ames (Dexter, Maine) had nine rebounds to go along with eight points for the visitors.
Endicott held a decisive 38-16 advantage in points in the paint and also had 35 points off turnovers in the win. The Gulls grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and scored 19 second chance points on Sunday.
The Blue and Green look to make it three-straight on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Medford, Mass. to take on the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division III 15th-ranked Tufts University Jumbos. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
