Dec. 2, 2008
BOSTON, Mass. - The Endicott College women's basketball team suffered their second loss of the season as they lost to Suffolk University in non-conference action on Tuesday night in Boston, Mass, 57-47. The Gulls (2-2) were led by sophomore Ashley Vitale (Wilmington, Mass.) who had 11 points and four rebounds in the set back. Suffolk's Julianne Conrad (West Bridgewater, Mass.) scored 16 points to pace the Rams who move to 4-2 on the season.
The first half was a back and forth battle between the two teams as they traded leads throughout the frame. The Gulls took a 8-4 lead at the 16:10 mark but Suffolk would battle back to take the lead, 21-20, nearly nine minutes later. Suffolk entered the half with a 28-25 advantage behind six points apiece from Kerry Bowman (Guilford Conn.), Conrad, and Amanda Levasseur (Leominster, Mass.). Endicott's Kate Kovach (Moon Township, Pa.) scored all nine of her points in the first half to lead the Gulls.
Endicott would stay within striking distance to start the half as a three-pointer by Kaylin Burke (Leominster, Mass.) cut the lead to two at the 14:58 mark. That would be the closest the Gulls would get as Suffolk would build leads in excess of 13 points and hold off a few runs by the Gulls to keep them at bay and secure the win, 57-47.
Vitale was the leading scorer for the Gulls with 11 points while Burke led the team in rebounds with seven. Endicott's leading scorer this season, Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, N.H.) was held to only six points on 3-9 shooting. Suffolk forced the Gulls into 25 turnovers and held them to 32.7% shooting from the field.
Suffolk was paced by Conrad's 16 points and nine rebounds while Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, Mass.) had eight points and 14 rebounds. The Rams had 15 steals in the contest including seven from Tracey.
The Blue and Green return to action on Saturday when they host Emmanuel College in non-conference action in MacDonald Gymnasium at 1:00 p.m. Suffolk will host another TCCC opponent on Thursday as they square off against Curry College at 7:00 p.m.
