Endicott drops JWU to capture tournament title

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Endicott’s \#Ceciley Chisholm\# (Lexington, Mass.) earned the CCNY Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament MVP award after she notched her second consecutive double-double to help lift the Gulls past Johnson & Wales University, 74-61, on Sunday afternoon in New York.
Johnson & Wales started off the game very strong, but with 12:27 to go, Endicott’s \#Ashley Wright\# (Merrimack, N.H.) gave her team a 15-14 lead. The lead wouldn’t last long as Johnson & Wales’ Ayla Walter (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) nailed a jumper on the next play to regain the advantage. The team would then go on a seven point run to take a commanding 21-15 lead. Endicott would cut the lead down to four with 5:50 left on the clock, 24-20, but a 6-0 run would give Johnson & Wales a 30-20 lead. Endicott refused to go away as the Gulls finished the half with a 12-6 run to cut the deficit to four points, 32-36.
In the first half, Johnson & Wales’ Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) led her team with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Allsyon Dowen (Burlington, Vt.) would finish the half with six points, while Brittany Harriot (Philadelphia, Pa.) contributed four assists.
Endicott would turn the tables in the second half. After a 3- pointer by Johnson & Wales’ Allyson Dowen the Gulls went on an 8-0 run to take the 40-39 lead. Both teams would go on to trade leads, but once Endicott got the lead back with 17:03 left on the clock, they would not relinquish it again the rest of the game. Johnson & Wales got as close as five points with 2:56 left on the clock, but could not hold back the Gulls’ offense.
For Endicott, \#Ashley Wright\# and \#Ceciley Chisholm\# each finished with a game-high 19 points. Chisholm also grabbed 12 rebounds. \#Jen McBrien\# (Medfield, Mass.) notched 15 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals, while \#Ashley Vitale\# (Wilmington, Mass.) had a well-rounded 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal in the winning effort.
Johnson & Wales’ Allsyon Dowen and Alexia Ramirez had 15 points apiece in the setback. Ramirez added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jeniphr Moxley (Lakewood, Wash.) contributed 10 points, while Marina Milliam (Chester, N.Y.) finished with 7 points, four steals and three rebounds in her 27 minutes of play.
\#Ceciley Chisholm\#’s stellar play in both games earned her MVP honors and she was accompanied by teammate \#Ashley Wright\# on the All-Tournament team. Alexia Ramriez (Johnson & Wales), Jeniphr Moxley (Johnson & Wales), Liz Borgia (Lebanon Valley) and Ashley Straughn (CCNY) would complete the All-Tournament selections.
