Gulls stop Lebanon Valley at CCNY Tournament

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Endicott’s \#Ceciley Chisholm\# (Lexington, Mass.) posted a double-double while teammate \#Kate Kovach\# (Moontownship, Pa.) hit four three-pointers as the Gulls edged previous unbeaten Lebanon Valley, 57-55, in the opening game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament hosted by CCNY on Saturday. Endicott improves to 5-3 with the win, while the Flying Dutchmen dip to 8-1.
Lebanon Valley jumped out to a slight 32-29 lead at the intermission behind the strength of 11 first half points from Erin Schultz (Pottstown, Pa.). The junior guard dialed in from behind the arc on three occasions in the opening 20 minutes, while classmate Suzie Noyes (Princeton, N.J.) added nine points to give the Flying Dutchmen the lead at the break.
The second half was one of long runs, as a see-saw battle waged between the two squads. The Gulls were quick to take control out of the locker room, opening the second frame with a 9-2 run. Lebanon Valley answered the bell by piecing together an even more impressive spurt, outscoring the Blue and Green at a 14-0 clip over a five minute span to regain the momentum.
The Gulls responded with a 12-0 burst to take a 52-48 lead with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. The advantage proved to be enough as the Gulls converted on their free-throw opportunities late in the game to seal a 57-55 road win.
Endicott held a dominate 28-18 advantage in points in the paint. The Gulls also outscored Lebanon Valley 13-7 in second chance opportunities.
\#Ceciley Chisholm\# finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Kovach had a team-high 16 points. \#Ashley Wright\# (Merrimack, N.H.) had 12 points to go along with five assists.
The Flying Dutchmen were led by Noyes and Schultz, who finished with 20 and 17 points, respectively.
Endicott will take on the winner of the CCNY vs. Johnson and Wales contest tomorrow on the campus of The City College of New York.
