Hot shooting Gulls take down Regis, 82-70

WESTON, Mass. – The Endicott College women’s basketball team made it seven wins in-a-row as the Gulls defeated Regis College, 82-70, on Saturday afternoon in The Commonwealth Coast Conference basketball action in Weston, Mass. \#Ashley Vitale\# (Wilmington, Mass.) scored a game-high 25 points in helping Endicott improve to 15-5 overall and 8-1 in the TCCC.
Endicott went down by as many as 10 in the opening half before scoring 17 straight points capped off by a \#Kaylin Burke\# (Leominster, Mass.) three-ball that left the Gulls with a 26-19 lead. Regis chipped away at the lead and cut it to one point with just over a minute to play in the first half before a pair of free throws by Brittany Kelleher (Wakefield, Mass.) gave Endicott a 40-37 lead heading into the intermission.
The Gulls came out firing in the second frame as they turned a three point lead into a 14 point advantage on a trey from \#Kate Kovach\# (Moon Township, Pa.) that left the Blue and Green with a 52-38 lead within the first three minutes of the second half. An and-one jumper by Regis’ Meagan Tobin (Quincy, Mass.) with 3:41 to play cut the lead to four, 72-68, but Endicott used a 10-2 run to end the game and come away with an important conference win, 82-70.
Vitale led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting while also grabbing seven rebounds and was one of four Gulls to tally double figures in scoring. Teammate \#Ceciley Chisholm\# (Lexington, Mass.) chipped in with 18 points on 8-of-11 (.727) shooting from the floor. Junior \#Ashley Wright\# (Merrimack, N.H.) and senior \#Kaylin Burke\# (Leominster, Mass.) added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
As a team, Endicott shot a blistering 63.3% (31-for-49) from the field while connecting on over 50% of its shots from beyond the arc.
Regis (13-8, 7-2 TCCC) also had four players in double figures lead by Meagan Tobin who had a team-high 16 points. Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) contributed 15 points while Jessica Page (Quincy, Mass.) and Brittany White (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 14 and 12 points each.
Both teams were in a four-way tie atop the TCCC standings heading into today’s game and now Endicott is knotted with the University of New England for the top spot in the conference.
Endicott will try and take sole possession of first place on Tuesday as the Gulls travel to UNE to take on the Nor’Easters at 6:00 p.m. Regis travels to Western New England College on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off against the Golden Bears.
