Gulls tabbed as preseason favorite

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott College women’s basketball team has been selected as the favorite to win the 2009-10 TCCC women’s basketball championship, it was announced by TCCC Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye on Friday. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the league’s head women’s basketball coaches.
The Gulls wrapped up their 2008-09 campaign at 23-6 overall while going 12-1 in the conference and ending the season in a three-way tie for first place with Nichols and the University of New England. The Gulls made it all the way to the TCCC Finals but were upset by Salve Regina, 72-67, on February 28th.
Despite the departure of 1,000-point scorer \#Nicole Duschesne\# (Plaistow, N.H.), the Gulls return All-TCCC Second Team selection \#Ashley Vitale\# (Wilmington, Mass.) in the hopes of capturing the program’s first-ever TCCC banner. Vitale was second on the team in scoring last year at 12.5 points per game while also leading the team in rebounds with 168 boards, good for an average of 5.8 per game.
Colby-Sawyer College was selected to finish second while receiving four first place votes. The University of New England was tabbed to finish third while picking up three first place votes. The defending champions, Salve Regina University and Nichols College were picked to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.
Teams received 14 points for every first place vote received, 13 points for second place votes, 12 points for third place votes, down to one point for a last place vote. First place votes are shown in parentheses.
