Wright and Vitale on All-TCCC First Team; Wright Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Springfield, Mass. – Two Endicott seniors were named to the All-TCCC First Team as it was announced by TCCC Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. Voted by the head women’s basketball coaches of the conference, Ashley Vitale (Wilmington, Mass.) and Ashley Wright (Merrimack, N.H.) earned nods on the All-TCCC First Team.
Along with her First Team award, Ashley Wright was named the league’s Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Vitale and Wright, who both breached the 1,000-point barrier in the month of January, captained a Gulls squad that went 10-3 in conference play and earned the \#4 seed in the upcoming TCCC Tournament. Endicott will host \#5 seed Regis at MacDonald Gymnasium at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 22nd. The Blue and Green edged out the Pride 64-61 back on February 5th behind 11 points from Vitale and seven assists from Wright.
Wright averaged 17.2 ppg by shooting 41.2% from the field including 38.8% from behind the three-point line. The senior made more three-point field goals per game (3.1) than any other player in the conference. She also averages 3.3 apg and has made 39 steals. Off the court, Wright made a splash after being named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team with a 3.77 GPA, making three appearances on the TCCC Academic All-Conference Team, seven Endicott Dean’s List awards and a permanent fixture on the Endicott Academic Varsity Club. Wright, a criminal justice major, has participated in several internship opportunities in her field. She is an active member of her community with numerous service projects. For all of these accomplishments, she was honored with the TCCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
Wright was previously named to the All-TCCC Third Team in her junior year.
Vitale has been a consistent offensive and defensive presence for the Gulls throughout the season. She averages 14.4 ppg with a 51.3 FG%. Vitale grabs 6.5 rpg and has 30 steals and 10 blocks in 13 conference games this season. Vitale also averages 1.4 apg in conference play.
This is Vitale’s third appearance on the All-TCCC after being named Third Team last year and Second Team following the 2008-09 season.
The other major awards handed out by the TCCC included Player of the Year to Salve Regina’s Erin Phillips, Defensive Player of the Year to UNE’s Kelley Paradis, and Rookie of the Year to Roger Williams’ Kaitlyn Bovee. Salve Regina’s Cori Hughes was named Coach of the Year while Wentworth earned the Sportsmanship Award.
