Lacrosse Outlook for Spring 2004
Nov. 17, 2003
Beverly, MA - The Endicott College women's lacrosse team is taking a different approach to the 2004 campaign. Instilling a competitive mindset to her squad, head coach Laura O'Neil wants this year's team to have the ability to maneuver under pressure. In order to have that poise under pressure, every player has to be able to think on her own and execute both offensively and defensively. Last season the Gulls implemented a number of new offensive plays and new defensive strategies to establish a solid foundation for the 2004 season.
Leading the way for Endicott will be senior attacker, Katie White (Ridgefield, CT). White was Endicott's leading scorer for the 2003 season and was named as a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All Conference First Team.
Endicott will look to the following returning juniors to make a difference in the success of the EC team. Christine Wilmott (Barre, VT) scored an impressive 17 goals and was named to the CCC All Conference Second Team. Jess Blair (Middlebury, VT) led the team in draw controls, and was second highest earner in ground balls and caused turnovers. Juniors spear-heading the defensive unit will be Emily McCarthy (Portland, ME), Erica Harrington (Underhill, VT), Joanna Imse (Bow, NH), and Allison Drought (North Kingston, RI).
Returning sophomores expected to continue an impact on the EC team are 2003 starters, Lauren Gibbons (Shaker Heights, OH), Susie Neikirk (Scotia, NY) and Cathy Sharp (Rutland, VT). Additional sophomore players to watch are Heather Hatfield (Tyngsboro, MA), and Katie Tavella (Madison, CT).
The EC lacrosse team has high expectations for the incoming first-year players. A few of the talented new players to EC include Erin Curry (East Hampstead, NH), Meaghan Mathers (Northampton, MA), Lindsey O'Connell (Mansfield, MA), Lyz Tomsuden (Rutland, VT) and Hannah Watson (Shaftsbury, VT).
In addition to having an intelligent group of players, the EC team will be faster, stronger and better. Intensity coupled with positive attitudes are attributes that give the Endicott team a high level of optimism. These returning players combined with the outstanding newcomers will help the Gulls compete for a first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship title.
