Gulls Senior Day Ends With a Win
April 16, 2005
Beverly, MA - The Gulls are undefeated on their home field so far this season after beating conference rival New England College 6-4. Senior Christine Wilmott (Barre, VT) tied it, then scored the game-winner, and senior captain Jess Blair (Middlebury, VT) put it away for good to give the Gulls their two-goal win.
It was a battle for the first thirty minutes with both goalies making save after save to keep the game tied at 1-1 going into halftime. Erin Curry (So/Hampstead, NH) was outstanding for the Gulls making eleven first-half saves and nine saves in the second. Curry's twenty saves is a career-high for the sophomore.
Susie Neikirk (Jr/Scotia, NY) and EC midfielders worked to transition the ball past NEC, after Gulls' defenders got the ball away from their opponent's attackers.
Lauren Gibbons (Jr/Shaker Heights, OH) scored Endicott's only first-half goal, unassisted against NEC keeper Laura Bishop.
Both teams came out shooting in the second. NEC scored back to back goals to start the second half and take a 3-1 lead. Gulls' Lindsey O'Connell (So/Mansfield, MA) and Emily Judd (So/Peabody, MA) tied it with a goal each. NEC pulled ahead 4-3, before Wilmott converted a free-position to tie it and scored on the next possession for the game winner. The Gulls won the draw control for the final possession and held onto it. Senior two-year captain Blair put it away on the Gulls' sixth goal of the game with 0:02 on the clock.
The Gulls improve to 11-2 overall; 4-1 CCC. This win puts Endicott in a three-way conference tie for first place with Colby-Sawyer College and NEC. EC takes on Gordon College away in Wenham, MA on Wednesday, April 20 at 4:00 pm.
