Gulls Advance to CCC Championship For the First Time

Beverly, MA - The second seeded Gulls took on UNE today in the CCC women's lacrosse semi-final game. The Gulls continued their unbeaten streak at home, beating the Nor'Easters 15-10.
Jess Blair (Sr/Middlebury, VT) scored the first goal of the contest, and the first of her four goals, in just under a minute giving the Gulls an early lead. Lauren Gibbons (Jr/Shaker Heights, OH) put the home team ahead by two on a free-position before UNE rallied with a four-goal run to take a two goal advantage, 4-2. Susie Neikirk (Jr/Scotia, NY), Blair, and Emily Judd (So/Peabody, MA) scored consecutively to reclaim the lead. The two teams traded goals from there, with the Gulls owning a one goal lead to go into half-time, 7-6.
UNE mustered a three-goal run in the second half, and added one more, but the Gulls were unstoppable on a five-goal run and two more in the final minutes to end with a 15-10 victory.
Christine Wilmott (Sr/Barre, VT) had two goals and an assist, Cathy Sharp (Jr/Rutland, VT) had three goals, Gibbons finished with three goals, while Lindsey O'Connell (So/Mansfield, MA), Judd, and Neikirk added one apiece.
EC defenders caused seventeen turnovers, led by Meaghan Mathers (So/Northampton, MA) with four. Erica Harrington (Sr/Underhill, VT) and senior captain Blair had three each.
In goal for the Gulls, Erin Curry (So/Hampstead, NH) made thirteen saves. UNE managed just four goals in second-half play against Curry.
The Gulls will play number one seed, Gordon College, at Gordon on Saturday, April 30 for the CCC Championship.
