Keene Slips Past Gulls in ECAC Semifinals

Beverly, MA -- Keene State scored five of the games last six goals to pull away from Endicott and win the semifinal ECAC tournament match tonight under the lights at Endicott Stadium. Endicott had just two draw controls to Keene's seven in the second half . The win sends the Owls to the ECAC championship game tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. versus Plymouth State and ends the Gulls unbeaten record at home. The Gulls finish their impressive season, 13-5, improving from an 8-10 finish in their 2004 campaign.
The Gulls played steady in the first half winning 10 draw controls to Keene's nine. The Gulls caused 10 turnovers while their shooters capitalized on the attack converting on 10 of 13 shots on goal. Lindsey O'Connell was a force for the Gulls scoring four of her five goals and notching one assist in the first half. At the break, Endicott held a 10-9 advantage.

Keene scored the first four goals of the second half to take a 13-10 lead, the largest lead yet of the game. Heather Hatfield answered with a free position goal for the Gulls, but Michelle Mason quickly added her seventh goal of the night to keep the lead at three. Endicott cut the lead to two one last time on another free position marking O'Connell's fifth and final goal of the game. Keene State then went on a five goal run led by Lanaya Nelson with two. The Gulls 2005 leading scorer Cathy Sharp scored her fourth goal and the Gulls final to end the scoring at 19-13.
O'Connell (5 goals, 1 assist) and Sharp (4 goals) led the Gulls, while Mason finished with a game-high eight goals for the Owls and teammates Nelson and Kristal Lundegaard added three apiece. Erin Curry had a stellar game in goal with a season high 23 saves, while Mandy Gray recorded 6 saves for the Owls.
The Gulls seniors (Jess Blair, Erica Harrington, Joanna Imse, Emily McCarthy, and Christine Wilmott) enjoyed their graduation ceremony this morning before suiting up to play their final game of their career.
