March 15, 2006
BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College fought back from a four-goal halftime deficit to beat MIT, 12-11, in overtime Wednesday evening on the snow-covered turf at Endicott Stadium.
The visitors took a 7-3 lead into the second half, but Endicott stormed back with eight unanswered goals and tied the game on back-to-back tallies by Cathy Sharp (Rutland, VT/Rutland) before Emily Judd (Peabody, MA/Peabody) sent the game into overtime with 24 seconds remaining in regulation.
Heather Hatfield (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro) netted the game-winner with less than 30 seconds remaining in the extra session to lift the Gulls (3-1) in this non-conference matchup. The Engineers (0-1) lost their season opener despite getting three goals apiece from Mary Harding (Wilton, CT/Phillips Exeter) and Deanne Lentz (Gaithersburg, MD/Richard Montgomery).
Sharp scored four goals for Endicott while Susie Neikirk (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville), Hatfield, and Judd each scored two goals in the win. Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) and Shiori Tachiwana (Kanagawa, Japan/Sakae Institute) had single goals as well for Endicott.
Endicott will host Salve Saturday at 1:00 PM while the Engineers welcome Rhode Island College (1:00 PM) Saturday.
