Women's Lacrosse Placed Seven On All-CCC Teams; Burke Named DPOY

CCC WOMEN'S LACROSSE ALL-CONFERENCE RELEASE 

BEVERLY, Mass. —The Endicott women's lacrosse team placed seven student-athletes on the 2016 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All-CCC teams, including the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, as selected by the conference's nine head coaches and announced today by the conference office.

Endicott's junior midfielder Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) and junior defender Chelsea Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) were recognized on the All-CCC First Team, and Burke also was slated as the conference's Defensive Player of the Year. Sophomore attack Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) was the lone representative on the Second Team, while freshman midfielder Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.), senior defender Elizabeth Reda (Wilton, Conn.), senior defender Brenna Shannon (Stratham, N.H.), and junior goalie Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) rounded out the Third Team, respectively.

ALL-CCC FIRST TEAM

EMILY WHITNEY | JUNIOR | MIDFIELD | RYE, N.H.

Whitney added to her collection of CCC selections, as she was a 2015 All-CCC Second Team member, in addition to her 2014 CCC Rookie of the Year honor as a 2014 All-CCC First Team honoree. Whitney leads the team in scoring with 32 goals, 20 assists, and 52 points on the season, bringing her to 185 career points that ranks eighth on the all-time Endicott points list, eighth in goals, and tied for fifth in career assists.

ALL-CCC FIRST TEAM/ CCC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

CHELSEA BURKE | JUNIOR | DEFENSE | GEORGETOWN, MASS.

Burke, also a 2014 All-CCC Honorable Mention, earned her first career spot on the First Team and was the program's fifth-ever Defensive Player of the Year winner. Burke paces the squad with 16 caused turnovers and is fourth with 30 ground balls. Burke put up career-high numbers with eight draws controls, four goals and two assists this season, scoring her first career goal against Wellesley on March 9th. Burke scooped up four ground balls on two occasions (Southern Maine and Roger Williams) to match her career-high.

ALL-CCC SECOND TEAM

ERIN MCCARTHY | SOPHOMORE | ATTACK | OLD LYME, CONN.

McCarthy is currently second on the team in goals (28) and points (32) and ranks in a three-way tie for most free-position goals in a single season with 14 this year to secure her spot on her first career all-conference team. McCarthy potted a career-high four goals twice this season, against Southern Maine (March 19th) and the University of New England (April 26th).

ALL-CCC THIRD TEAM

ALI CAMPBELL | FRESHMAN | MIDFIELD | LAKEVILLE, MASS.

Campbell has put together a solid freshman campaign as she is second on the team in assists (12) and third in points (26) while scooping up a team-high 34 ground balls and winning 39 draw controls (team's second-highest). Campbell recorded a career-high five points in back-to-back games against Curry and Western New England on April 6th and April 9th, respectively and tallied a hat trick of assists on three occasions (Southern Maine, Curry, Western New England).

ELIZABETH REDA | SENIOR | DEFENSE | WILTON, CONN.

Reda, also a 2015 All-CCC First Team selection, set a single-game career high with four ground balls twice (Southern Maine on March 19th and Nichols on April 20th). The senior captain registered her first career point with one goal against Wentworth on Senior Day on April 16th, 2016.

BRENNA SHANNON | SENIOR | DEFENSE | STRATHAM, N.H.

Shannon landed on her first career all-conference team in her senior season in which she set career highs in caused turnovers in a single-season with 14, surpassing the 10 she registered during her junior year. The senior captain is currently second on the team in caused turnovers (14) and third in ground balls (31) set career single-game highs three caused turnovers apiece against Wellesley (March 9) and at Curry (April 6) and four ground balls against RPI on March 14th during the Gulls' Spring Break trip. Shannon also recorded her first career point with one assist in the team's 15-7 win at Southern Maine on March 19th, 2016.

MAURA GRADY | JUNIOR | GOALIE | MARBLEHEAD, MASS.

Grady, also a 2015 All-CCC Second Team member, has appeared in 15 games with 14 starts in goal with a 5-9 record as she has amassed 116 saves on the season and is second on the team with 32 ground balls. She made a season-high 17 saves (one shy of her career-high) against Bowdoin on March 23rd, 2016 and currently ranks sixth on the all-time program list with 258 career saves.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls (7-9 overall) earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament after posting a 6-2 record in CCC play. Endicott will host the winner of No. 3 UNE/ No. 6 Curry in the CCC Semifinals at Hempstead Stadium on Wednesday, May 4th at a time to be determined.
