Women's Lacrosse Bests Springfield, 15-10
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's lacrosse team defeated Springfield, 15-10, in a Saturday non-conference matinee from Hempstead Stadium.
Emerson Clark (Gloucester, Mass.) and Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.) led the charge with four goals apiece, while Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.) recorded a hat trick.
Kenzie Velsmid (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Ava Amara (Southbury, Conn.), Abbie Belleville (Salem, Conn.), and Mia Samarjian (Stow, Mass.) rounded out the rest of the scoring for the Gulls.
The two teams concluded the first quarter in a 3-3 deadlock. Two Clark tallies and a Velsmid score put the Gulls up 3-1 before the Pride evened things up with consecutive goals.
Then, the hosts outpaced the Pride 6-2 in the second quarter to take a comfortable 9-5 advantage heading into halftime. Amara, Clark, Smith (2), Belleville, and Black all registered goals in the second for the Blue and Green.
The Pride outscored the Gulls 2-1 in the third, with the lone Endicott goal coming off the stick of Smith.
The Blue and Green then closed out the fourth quarter on a 5-3 run, highlighted by three goals from Black in the stanza. Samarjian and Clark tacked on the two other scores for the Gulls.
Between the pipes, Severine Michel (Seekonk, Mass.) improved to 2-0 after her three-save effort.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott improved to 6-4 in the all-time series against Springfield.
- Smith has netted 10 goals in the first two games this season.
- Black dished out a game-high four assists, while Clark notched three.
- Clark's seven total points in the game tied a career-best (UNE, 4/10/24; WNE, 3/27/24).
- Black finished just one point shy of her career-high (nine, Hartford, 5/3/25).
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (2-0) heads to Keene State on Tuesday, March 10 for a 4 PM non-conference matchup. Springfield (1-2) travels to Trinity on Wednesday, March 11 for a 6 PM non-conference bout.
