NEW LONDON, N.H. – The No. 3 nationally ranked Endicott club women's rugby team fell to Colby-Sawyer, 34-17, on Friday evening at Mercer Field. Colby-Sawyer is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA), which is the governing body for NCAA women's rugby.
Endicott came out strong in the contest building up a 12-0 lead against the NCAA varsity program, but the Chargers evened up the score at 12-12 at the half before coming away with the hard-earned victory against the Gulls.
"Today's match was a great learning experience for our program that we can grow from and continue to build off of," said Endicott women's rugby head coach Carly Baker. "I'm proud of the way we fought and battled."
The Player of the Match for Endicott was Amelia George (Holyoke, Mass.) for her no quit attitude, strong runs, and great tackles on defense.
Offensively, the Gulls received a pair of tries from Tess Merrill (Greenwich, N.Y.) and a solo score via Jourdan VanAmburgh (Selkirk, N.Y.).
Elektra Cheney (Collinsville, Conn.) had one conversion to round out the scoring.
