Gulls top Salem State

The women's tennis team improved its record to 6-0 following a 7-2 win at home over Salem State on Friday. The Gulls won at 2nd through 6th singles and at 1st and 2nd doubles to secure the victory.
1st singles player Blythe Langley lost 6-2, 7-5 against a tough opponent, but displayed the consistency, athleticism, and mental toughness that has helped her to a 4-2 start this season. Melissa Marrone cruised to a straight set win at 2nd singles, while Lauren Gibbons won her 3rd singles match 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Brianne Cogan, Carli Conners, and Sofia Pagano each posted convincing straight set victories at 4th through 6th singles, respectively.
At 1st doubles, Marrone and Tessy Garcia looked very strong, winning 8-4, while Julie Castle and Bridget Poulsen pulled out their 2nd doubles match, 8-7, after winning a tie-breaker.
The women are off until Thursday, October 2nd, when they face Plymouth State College at home (3:30pm start time).
