Gulls Defeat Wentworth, 8-1
Beverly, MA-- The Gulls defeated Wentworth with an 8-1 victory on Wentworth's turf. The Gulls' 1-4 singles cruised to straight set wins with very little challenge from their opponents.
5th singles player, Stephanie Branch breezed through the first set 6-1 but found the second set a little more challenging at 7-6, winning the tiebreaker, 7-4. Jessica Kalafatis breezed through her first set 6-1, then dropped the second set 3-6. "Jess played a super tiebreaker to determine the 3rd set, but fell to her opponent, 4-6," Head Coach Gale Bacon commented.
The doubles teams won their eight game pro sets in record time. "The women are using their strong net game skills to their advantage and charging the net and putting the ball away at every opportunity they're given," Coach Bacon said. The teams' overhead and volley skills have improved enormously which has made them more affective doubles teams.
Blythe Langley and Lauren Gibbons overpowered their opponents with an 8-0 win. The team of Carli Conners and Brianne Cogan took over the net and won with their crisp volleys and accurate overhead smashes. The freshman team of Nicole Leveille and Stephanie Branch have improved their net game and dominated their match with their sharp angle volleys and precision overheads.
