The Gulls Fall to the Seahawks
Beverly, MA-- The women's tennis team had a very competitive match against Salve Regina. The Hawks are the 2003 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Champions. The Gulls fought hard against the Seahawks, but fell by a score of 7-2.
Brianne Cogan won in her \# 4 singles match with a very hard fought first set. The first set went to a tiebreaker and Brianne won the tiebreaker with her deep top spin ground strokes and very offensive net game, winning at (7-1).
Brianne teamed up with Carli Conners winning 8-4 in \#2 doubles. They over powered their opponents with their deep angle volleys and overhead smashes.
Blythe Langley and Lauren Gibbons had a very close doubles match, but fell, 7-9. Lauren and Blythe were neck and neck with their opponents. Blythe and Lauren attacked the net and won a lot of points with crisp accurate volleys and overheads.
Nicole Leveille went three sets with her opponent, coming back from behind in the first set to win 6-4. Nicole continued to battle her opponent, but lost the last two sets.
Lauren Gibbons also had a very close singles match with very long rallies from the baseline and some very good approach shots to take over the net. Lauren stayed even with her opponent to the end and played a hard fought battle. The final score was 4-6, 4-6.
The Gulls travel to Salem State College today, for a match time of 3:30pm.
