The Gulls Breeze Through Salem State
In a non-conference match up, the women's tennis team defeated Salem State College yesterday afternoon, by a score of 6-1. Due to darkness, \#2 and \#3 singles were unable to complete their matches.
The Gulls doubles teams started out strong with a clean sweep in \#1 and \#3 doubles. The most challenging doubles match was the \# 1 doubles team of Blythe Langley and Lauren Gibbons. Their match was neck and neck until Blythe and Lauren pulled ahead in the last two games for an 8-6 win.
The \# 1 singles match was by far the most exciting of the day. Blythe Langley matched up against a tough Salem State opponent, Kie Tanaka. Last year, Blythe lost to Kie in their \#1 singles match. However, this year was a different outcome. Blythe won the first set 7-5 but Kie came on strong in the second set to take it 6-2. Blythe won the 3rd set, super tiebreaker, with a very close score of, 11-9. "This was a great win for Blythe," Head Coach Gale Bacon commented.
Playing at \#4 singles was Stephanie Branch, who beat her opponent in straight sets. In the same fashion, \#5 singles player Nicole Leveille defeated her opponent in straight sets.
Teaming up at \#2 doubles were Brianne and Stephanie. The two defeated their opponent, 8-4. Nicole and Bridget Poulsen teamed up to defeat their \#3 doubles opponent, 8-2.
EC improved their overall record to 5-4. The Gulls host Curry College, tomorrow at 3:30pm.
