Gulls Sweep Curry College, 9-0
Beverly, MA--The Endicott Women's Tennis Team had a clean sweep over Commonwealth Coast Conference member, Curry College. The Gulls took all five singles matches in straight sets and won both doubles matches. Curry defaulted one singles and one doubles match, giving the Gulls the 9-0 win.
Blythe Langley topped her opponent, Erica Veenendaal 6-2, 6-1. "Last year, Blythe lost to Erica, but improved her level of play by coming to net and hitting sharp angle shots," Head Coach Gale Bacon commented.
Lauren Gibbons demonstrated focus and tenacity in her match, winning 6-2,6-2. Brianne Cogan's defeated her Curry opponent by a score of 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
Both freshmen players Stephanie Branch and Nicole Leveille showed sophistication and poise in their matches today. They were both patient and took over the net during their play. Stephanie played 5th singles winning 6-1,6-2. Nicole had a more challenging match, but earned the victory, winning 6-4,6-3.
At 1st doubles, Langley and Gibbons posted an 8-4 win with some very exciting net play from both teams. Second doubles Carli Conners and Brianne won their doubles match by a score of 8-0.
The tennis team keeps improving as the season progresses the last and final regular season matches. The Gulls take on Regis College on Fri Oct. 8 and Nichols on Oct 9.
