Colby Sawyer Edges Gulls, 5-4

New London, NH -- The Gulls were defeated in a very close match with Colby Sawyer, 5-4. The loss drops Endicott to 8-5 overall and 5-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Tied at four, the match came down to the last doubles match of the day between the Endicott team of Kate Fiske (Westerly, RI/Westerly) and Rachel Layton (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) versus the Colby Sawyer team of Sarah Zirnkilton (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island) and Brittany Mailman (Freedom, NH/Kennett). The Charger duo prevailed 8-4 in the super set to give Colby Sawyer a slim victory.
Freshmen Nicole Breting (Woonsocket, RI/Mount St. Charles) and Lori Wardner (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) continued their strong play winning at 3rd and 4th singles, both by scores of 6-4,6-1. Junior Stephanie Branch (Boothbay Harbor, ME/Boothbay Harbor) won a close match at 6th singles 6-4, 6-4. Endicott's fourth point came at 2nd doubles where Breting and Brianne Cogan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga) won 8-4.
With the regular season complete, the women will wait for the CCC tournament pairings to be formally announced to see where they will play their first round match on Tuesday, October 10th. However, it appears that they will be headed to Roger Williams as the fifth seed to take on the Hawks who are the fourth seed.
