Gulls keep perfect season alive, edges Salve

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's tennis team improved to 12-0 on Sunday afternoon, downing Salve Regina University, 6-3, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match in Beverly, Massachusetts. The Gulls improve to 8-0 in TCCC play while Salve Regina slips to 5-3 overall (5-2 TCCC). Endicott now looks ahead to a conference showdown between unbeaten teams on Tuesday afternoon as the Blue and Green will face 12-0 Colby-Sawyer in New London, N.H.
Salve Regina's top doubles team of Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) and Jessica Timpano (Narraganset, R.I.) posted a 9-7 win over Nicole Breting (Johnston, R.I.) and Lori Wardner (Wrentham, Mass.) to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead. Endicott responded with a No. 2 doubles win from Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) and Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.), as the pair defeated Elise Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Jessica Smith (Bristol, Conn.), 8-0. The Gulls also won in the third doubles match as Jenna Carme (Greenfield, Mass.) and Kate Fiske (Westerly, R.I.) swung their way past Stefi Carrell (Stowe, Vt.) and Valerie Leso (West Warwick, R.I.), 8-3.
Endicott took the first three singles matches as Kate Cioffi, Nicole Breting and Lori Wardner edged Eric Philips, Jessica Timpano and Jessica Smith, respectively. Nichol Stevens (Chester, Conn.) gave the Seahawks their second point of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Alyson Boehm. Kate Fiske handled Elise Jones 6-0, 6-3 in the fourth singles, while Kristen Romano (Wakefield, R.I.) came from behind to beat Jenna Carme 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The Gulls are now set to battle from the conference's No. 1 seed in the upcoming tournament as they head to New London, N.H. to meet Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday. Salve looks to rebound at home on Tuesday afternoon against Wentworth.
