Gulls win, move on in TCCC Tournament

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's tennis team defeated Gordon College on Tuesday to move forward to the Semifinals in the TCCC Playoffs by a score of 9-0. The Gulls were led by All-TCCC team members Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.), Nicole Breting (Johnston, R.I.), and Lori Wardner (Wrentham, Mass.) in the victory over the rival Fighting Scots.
In doubles play, current First Team All-TCCC doubles partners Nicole Breting and Lori Wardner were able to dispose of Kate Kirby (Orono, Maine) and Kristin Bollier by a score of 8-2. The Second Team All-Conference doubles team of Kate Cioffi and Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.) were able to get past Gordon's Maggie Baldridge (Goshen, Ind.) and Heather Vicary (Old Town, Maine) 8-1 and the Honorable Mention All-Conference senior duo of Kate Fiske (Westerly, R.I) and Jenna Carme (Greenfield, Mass.) shut-out Laura Baldwin and Lauren Stone, 8-0.
Endicott would continue its strong play in singles as the Gulls would sweep the six singles matches on the day. First Team All-TCCC Singles selection Kate Cioffi would defeat Kate Kirby 6-2, 6-0 while the junior Breting would defeat Bollier without dropping a point 6-0, 6-0. Wardner, Boehm, Fiske, and Carme would all go on to win their singles matches without dropping a set and completing the shutout of the visiting Fighting Scots, 9-0.
Up next for the Blue and Green is the NEWITTS Tournament to be held this weekend. Endicott returns to action in the TCCC tournament on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 as it hosts Western New England in the Semifinals of the tournament at 2:00 p.m. Western New England was able to upset the higher seeded Salve Regina squad 5-4 on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
