USPTA picks Bacon as New England Coach of the Year
Jan. 30, 2009
BEVERLY, Mass. - The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) has chosen Endicott's Gale Bacon as its New England Coach of the Year award recipient. Bacon led the Gulls to their first ever The Commonwealth Coast Conference title and a 16-1 overall record in 2008.
Founded in 1927, USPTA is the world's oldest and largest association of tennis-teaching professionals. With more than 15,000 members worldwide, USPTA is governed nationally by a democratically elected Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
Bacon, a 20-year USPTA member, began coaching at Endicott in the fall of 2004. In her five seasons at the helm of the women's tennis program, Bacon has compiled a 57-20 overall record and a 35-12 mark in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Gulls lone loss of 2008 came to Colby-Sawyer College in the final week of the regular season; however the Blue and Green avenged the setback by downing the Chargers in the Conference finals just two weeks later.
