BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women’s tennis team opened its The Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule on Saturday with a convincing 9-0 win over Anna Maria College on the South Campus Courts in Beverly, Mass. The win pushes the Gulls to 2-0 overall while Anna Maria slips to 0-1.
The Gulls made short work of the Amcats in doubles play as the Blue and Green dropped just one game in the first three sets. \#Kate Cioffi\# (Essex, Vt.) and teammate \#Alyson Boehm\# (Lowell, Mass.) defeated Marissa Boss (Holden, Mass.) and Nicki Hackenson (Mendon, Mass.), 8-1, while \#Nicole Breting\# (Johnston, R.I.) and \#Lori Wardner\# (Wretham, Mass.) blanked Mariel Marfongelli (Salem, Mass.) and Brittany Curran (Revere, Mass.), 8-0. \#Rachel Layton\# (Falmouth, Maine) and \#Kerri Dunn\# (Middleton, Mass.) were also victorious, firing past Lora Curtis (Fairfield, Pa.) and Brittany Quattrocci (Verganes, Vt.) by the score of 8-0.
Endicott kept its winning-ways going in singles action as the Gulls swept their way through the Amcats lineup with a near-perfect display of tennis. Cioffi topped Boss, 6-1, 6-1, while Breting shutout Hackenson, 6-0, 6-0. Lori Wardner defeated Mariel Marfongelli by the same 6-0, 6-0 score and \#Alyson Boehm\# posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over \#Brittany Curran\#. \#Kerri Dunn\# and \#Rachel Layton\# were also singles winners for Endicott.
The Gulls get back to work on Tuesday when Endicott hits the road to face Nichols College for a 3:30 p.m. match-up. Anna Maria looks to rebound on the same day with its home-opener against Roger Williams.
