Endicott squanders lead, falls to Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott College women’s tennis team squandered a 4-1 lead, dropping a 5-4 decision to Roger Williams University on Sunday afternoon in Bristol, R.I. The win was the Hawks’ third-straight in TCCC play.
Endicott began the day taking two of the three doubles matches, with \#Kate Cioffi\# (Essex Vt.) and \#Alyson Boehm\# (Lowell, Mass.) defeating Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) and Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Grove, N.J.), 9-7, in the first flight. In No. 2 doubles, \#Nicole Breting\# (Johnston, R.I.) and \#Lori Wardner\# (Wrentham, Mass.) earned the 8-2 win over Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) and Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.). Katelin Richard (West Islip, N.Y.) and Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Conn.) had the Hawks’ lone doubles win, beating \#Rachel Layton\# (Falmouth Maine.) and \#Kerri Dunn\# (Middleton, Mass.) 8-4 in the second flight.
After Cioffi defeated Ribchinsky 6-0, 6-1 in first singles and Wardner won 6-2, 7-6 (3) over Osepchuk in the third flight, the Hawks found themselves needing to win the remaining four matches for the win, which is what the team proceeded to do. Klein won her No. 2 match against Breting 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.) picked up the third Hawk win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Layton, while Richard’s 6-4, 6-1 victory over Dunn tied the match at four apiece. Wolfe earned the Hawks’ decisive fifth win, defeating Boehm 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Roger Williams (3-1, 3-0 TCCC) will travel down the road Wednesday to Newport for a 3:30 p.m. match at Salve Regina University, while Endicott (3-2, 1-2 TCCC) will be at Western New England College also on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
