Gulls hold off Golden Bears, 5-4

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) captured both her No. 1 singles and doubles matches as the visiting Endicott women’s tennis team knocked Western New England College from the unbeaten ranks with a 5-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon in Springfield, Mass.
The Gulls are now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Golden Bears fall to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.
Cioffi lost only two points in taking her singles match and teamed with senior \#Alyson Boehm\# (Lowell, Mass.) for an 8-4 win in doubles action.
Seniors \#Nicole Breting\# (Johnston, R.I.) and \#Lori Wardner\# (Wrentham, Mass.) took the No. 2 doubles flight by an 8-4 margin. Breting then won her No. 2 singles and Wardner the No. 3 singles match in straight sets.
Western New England College sophomore Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, Mass.) captured her No. 5 singles flight in straights and took the No. 3 doubles match with freshman Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, Mass.).
Endicott returns to the courts on Saturday when the Gulls host Salve Regina University at 12:00 p.m.
