Endicott wins fifth-straight, sweeps Eastern Nazarene
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College women’s tennis team notched its fifth-straight win with a 9-0 sweep over Eastern Nazarene College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The Gulls improve to 11-3 this season and 8-2 in the TCCC while Eastern Nazarene wraps up its season at 3-10 and 2-9 in conference matches.
Endicott got off to a fast start as the Gulls dropped only two games combined in the three doubles matches. \#Kate Cioffi\# (Essex, Vt.) and \#Alyson Boehm\# (Lowell, Mass.) defeated Allison Cammarata (Marion, Mass.) and Elise Sleeper (Sanford, Maine), 8-1 while \#Nicole Breting\# (Johnston, R.I.) and \#Lori Wardner\# (Wrentham, Mass.) improved to 13-1 in doubles matches this season with an 8-0 victory over Laura Keith (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and Stephanie Pestilli (Norwell, Mass.). \#Rachel Layton\# (Falmouth, Maine) and \#Emily Annis\# (Hampton, N.H.) finished the doubles sweep for the Gulls, downing Arielle Nazareth (Warwick, R.I.) and Heather LaFountain (Pawtucket, R.I.), 8-1.
The Gulls continued to roll through singles play as Cioffi and Breting failed to drop a set in their matches against Cammarata and Sleeper, both winning 6-0, 6-0, respectively. \#Lori Wardner\# defeated Laura Keith, 6-1, 6-0, while \#Alyson Boehm\# downed Arielle Nazareth by a similar score, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles play. \#Kerri Dunn\# (Middleton, Mass.) and \#Emily Annis\# wrapped up the sweep for Endicott with matching 6-2, 6-1, victories over Stephanie Pestilli and Heather LaFountain.
The Blue and Green finish up their 2009 regular season campaign when they travel to Weston, Mass. for the final TCCC matchup of the season against Regis College on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. The Gulls begin their TCCC Championship defense when the conference playoffs open up on October 13th.
