Gulls voted fourth in TCCC Preseason Poll
August 24, 2010
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Endicott women’s tennis team was voted fourth in a preseason poll conducted by coaches in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Gulls earned 98 votes to finish behind Colby-Sawyer, Roger Williams, and preseason favorite Nichols in the ballot.
The Blue and Green lost four key players to graduation but enters 2010 under new leadership with aspirations of making a fourth straight The Commonwealth Coast Conference championship appearance. First year head coach Lauren MacKay hopes to utilize returning players with game experience in pursuit of the Gulls’ second TCCC crown after finishing 14-4 last season.
Endicott returns their top singles and doubles player in junior \#Kate Cioffi\# (Essex, Vt.), who went 13-3 in number one singles and 14-4 in doubles as a sophomore. The two-time conference Player of the Week earned First Team All-TCCC recognition in both categories.
Fellow juniors \#Emily Annis\# (Hampton, N.H.) and \#Kerri Dunn\# (Middleton, Mass.) come back after making significant contributions last year. Annis earned five wins in 2009, including a pair of victories in the TCCC tournament. Dunn also earned five wins in singles play while finishing 3-3 in the number three doubles spot. Look for the two to fill the void left by graduation and play an increased role in 2010.

A number of returning players hope to play a more active role in 2010. \#Kristen DiFillippo\# (Lynnfield, Mass.) finished 1-0 in both singles and doubles last season and looks to step into the starting rotation on a consistent basis. Fellow junior \#Laura MacLeod\# (Mashpee, Mass.), as well as a slew of returning sophomores, hopes to make a splash this year.
The Gulls will be tested early as they play host to Nichols in the early stages of the season. The Blue and Green hope to utilize the friendly confines of the South Campus Courts, where they are 28-2 over the past three seasons, in their pursuit of the 2010 TCCC title.
