Tennis back on track with a 7-2 win over Gordon

Wenham, Mass. – The Endicott women’s tennis team responded to a two-match losing streak by defeating The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) foe Gordon College on Saturday afternoon 7-2 behind several hard fought victories in both singles and doubles play.
Wenham, Mass. – The Endicott women’s tennis team responded to a two-match losing streak by defeating The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) foe Gordon College on Saturday afternoon 7-2 behind several hard fought victories in both singles and doubles play.
With the victory, the Gulls even their 2010 record to 2-2 (2-1 TCCC) while the Scots drop to 1-4 (1-2 TCCC).
Junior number one singles player \#Kate Cioffi\# (Essex, Vt.) was one of our five Gulls players to win their singles matches as Cioffi posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over her opponent. At the number two singles spot, \#Emily Annis\# (Hampton, N.H.) won in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Number six singles player \#Kristen DiFillippo\# (Lynnfield, Mass.) was the only other Gull to win in straight sets as she was victorious 6-4, 6-3.
Junior \#Laura MacLeod\# (Mashpee, Mass.) edged her opponent with a 7-5 tiebreaker in the first set to win 7-6 and then cruised to a 6-2 win in the second set of the number four singles match. Number five singles, freshman \#Melanie Weinick\# (Colchester, Conn.), dropped the first set 0-6 before storming back for 6-2, 6-2 victories in the second and third set to earn the win.
In doubles play, Cioffi and MacLeod needed a 7-4 tiebreaker win to overcome their opponents 9-8 in number one doubles. DiFillippo and her partner \#Gina Pinciaro\# (Beverly, Mass.) took the number three doubles 8-4 to round out the scoring.
Endicott will travel to Salem State University on September 13th for a road match with the Vikings starting at 3:30 pm.
