Endicott edges WNEC 5-4 in TCCC women's tennis action

Beverly, Mass. – The Endicott women’s tennis team hosted Western New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action on Tuesday afternoon and the Gulls edged the Golden Bears 5-4 thanks to a gutsy number five singles performance by freshman \#Melanie Weinick\# (Colchester, Conn.) that took the match.
Beverly, Mass. – The Endicott women’s tennis team hosted Western New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action on Tuesday afternoon and the Gulls edged the Golden Bears 5-4 thanks to a gutsy number five singles performance by freshman \#Melanie Weinick\# (Colchester, Conn.) that took the match.
The Blue and Green won their
third consecutive match and have four out of five conference
matches to improve to 5-3 (5-1 TCCC). WNEC dropped to 2-4 (2-4
TCCC) following the loss.
Weinick dropped the first set of
her singles match to Golden Bears senior Ashley Czelatka
(Southampton, N.Y.) 6-3 before storming back to win the final two
sets 6-4, 6-1. Weinick remains undefeated in singles play,
improving to 5-0.
At the start of the match in
doubles, the Gulls took two out of three match ups at the number
one and number three doubles spots. WNEC’s combination
of Jessica Haffner (Suffield, Conn.) and Christina Barbarisi
(Feeding Hills, Mass.) won the number two doubles match 8-4.
The Golden Bears were solid in
the number two, three, and four singles matches as each WNEC player
won in straight sets. Endicott’s \#Kate Cioffi\# (Essex,
Vt.) won 6-2, 6-4 in number one singles and \#Gina Pinciaro\#
(Beverly, Mass.) won 6-0, 6-2 in number six singles setting up
Weinick in the winning match.
Endicott will return to action
on Saturday, September 25 at 12:00 pm as the Gulls travel to Anna
Maria College for a TCCC contest. WNEC battles cross town
rival Springfield College on the road on Thursday, September 23 at
4:00 pm.
