Women's tennis falls to Salve Regina, prepares for TCCC Tournament

Newport, R.I. – Endicott dropped a 9-0 decision to host Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women’s tennis action. With the loss, the Gulls drop to 8-5 overall and 8-3 in the conference. The Seahawks improve to 9-2 in league play and secure the number three seed in the upcoming TCCC Tournament.
Endicott will host Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday in the opening round of the tournament, nine days after defeating the Chargers 5-1.
Salve Regina took all three doubles matches before sweeping singles play in the final contest of the season for both teams. Juniors Emily Annis (Hampton, N.H.) and Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) fell 8-5 in the number one spot.
Three singles matches were decided in three sets. Cioffi battled back from a set down before falling 10-8 in tiebreaker. Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.), playing at number three singles, also rallied from a set down before falling 10-0 in the tiebreaker.
Freshman Melanie Weinick (Colchester, Conn.) fell 10-5 in a third set tiebreaker at number five singles.
The Gulls host in the first round of the TCCC Tournament for the second consecutive year. Last season, Endicott advanced all the way to the Championship game before falling to Colby-Sawyer 5-2.
