Endicott handed first loss and second seed in CCC Tournament

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s tennis team trailed for much of Saturday’s match against fellow conference unbeaten Nichols College, but the Gulls nearly mounted a comeback before falling just short in a 5-4 loss to the Bison.
The loss was Endicott’s first of the season and their first of conference play. The Gulls (11-1, 7-1 CCC) claimed the two-seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament while Nichols (11-3, 8-0 CCC) will be the top-seeded team in the playoffs. Both Endicott and Nichols have earned bye’s through the quarterfinals and will host semifinal matches on October 19th.
With the whole league’s conference schedule coming to a close today, it was determined that Endicott will face the winner of the \#6 Western New England at \#3 Roger Williams quarterfinal match to be played on Tuesday, October 11th. The winner of the semifinal matches will move on to play in the CCC Championship on Saturday, October 22nd at the highest remaining seed.
Against the Bison, Endicott lost two out of three doubles matches before splitting the singles matches. The \#3 doubles duo of sophomore Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) and freshman Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) defeated their Nichols opponents 8-2 to improve to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in CCC matches this season.
In singles play, Heacox continued her undefeated season at \#3 singles with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) triumph. Fellow freshman Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) handed her opposition a 7-5, 6-2 defeat at \#5 singles.
Junior Gina Pinciaro, playing at the \#6 singles spot, turned in a clutch 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (7-2) win but Endicott came up short on the final day of regular season conference play.
Endicott will host Suffolk on Thursday, October 13th at 3:30 pm in non-conference action. The Gulls will honor seniors Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.), Emily Annis (Hampton, N.H.), Laura MacLeod (Mashpee, Mass.) and Kristin DeFillippo (Lynnfield, Mass.) with Senior Day festivities on the South Campus Courts.
