Women's Tennis Beats Roger Williams to Reach CCC Final

MANCHESTER, Mass. – The Endicott women’s tennis team defeated Roger Williams 5-0 Wednesday afternoon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) semi-final and will advance to play in the CCC final, their first since lifting the trophy in 2008-09. The second seeded Gulls (7-1 CCC) knocked off the \#3 Hawks in a match that was played to decision at Manchester Athletic Club.
The Gulls swept the three doubles contests to take a 3-0 lead in the race to five points. Seniors Emily Annis (Hampton, N.H.) and Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) won at first doubles 8-3, while Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Me.) were victorious at third doubles by an 8-2 margin. The closest match of the day came at second doubles, where senior Laura MacLeod (Mashpee, Mass.) and freshman Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Me.) were able to hold off Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Grove, N.J.) and Hillary Dutton (Cheshire Conn.) by an 8-5 score.
Cioffi delivered one of the final two points for Endicott when she defeated Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) 6-0, 6-2 in the first doubles slot. Egbert sealed the match when she finished off a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Osepchuk at fifth singles.
The Gulls improve their record to 13-1 and will move on to the CCC final at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon at the \#1 seed Nichols. The Bison (12-3, 8-0 CCC) handed the Gulls their only loss of the year on October 8th by a 5-4 score and today knocked off \#4 Salve Regina 5-1. Roger Williams ends their season with a 9-4 record, while amassing a 6-2 conference mark.
